Preschool

The foundations are set in Preschool for successful learning through play and exploration, stimulating all the senses and sparking lifelong curiosity.

In Preschool and Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which is based on 7 areas of learning:

● Communication and language

● Physical development

● Personal, social and emotional development

● Literacy

● Mathematics

● Understanding the world

● Expressive arts and design

We believe free play is critical in the early years, and enables a child-led exploration of their environment. The adults are there to facilitate and scaffold the learning to identify and meet the needs of individual child.

A large part of the day in Preschool is spent outside, rain or shine. Danish research has shown that children express significantly higher levels of well-being, improved social interactions, and joy while learning outdoors in comparison to the classroom. We typically spend 3-4 hours outdoors every day exploring our local environment, discovering and playing in a healthy, fresh-air setting.

London Scandinavian School uses a technique called Planning-in-the-Moment that plans teachable moments around what brings joy and fascination to an individual child.

Preschool is open from 8:15 a.m. to 5.45p.m. 48 weeks per year. Family-style hot lunch is included in school fees. Children are invited to join our preschool from their second birthday.
