Preschool and Reception
Stimulating the senses through play is how the young brain learns. Our preschoolers spend several hours each day outside exploring the many playgrounds and natural open spaces our neighborhood offers.
Setting the Danish ‘Bornehaveklasse’ goal, our Reception-aged children maintain a strong link to the Preschool class and a gentle introduction to the English Jolly Phonics and Abacus curricula. Maintaining an open-door policy with Preschool eases the transition between the early years and the increasing structure of Year 1 and up.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, which consists of 7 areas of learning:
- Personal, Social, Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication & Language
- Understanding the World
- Arts & Design
Key Stage 1
Years 1 and 2 are important years as children’s brain transition to receive more structured learning. Still allowing for plenty of outdoor learning and play, more time is set aside for focused lesson. Class instruction is given in small group settings based on ability so that each individual child is challenged on a continual basis.
Key Stage 2
As our children’s minds mature, we begin preparing them for life after Dania. Building on the foundations set in the earlier stages, children’s work becomes more project-based where multiple areas of learning are applied at once. Our students are expected to be active participants in setting their achievement goals, which in turn keeps them excited and engaged on their journey. This also creates positive role models for our younger pupils,
